Join Mobius

Historically, Mobius has added new members through invitation based on the groups’ experience working with an artist through curated work or open calls or through projects produced elsewhere that involved individual Mobius members.

We have decided that in order to fully live up to our values, our recruitment process needs to have additional, more accessible points of entry, and be more transparent than it has been in the past.

Here’s what we seek in potential Mobius members:

  • Artists committed to challenging their vision of what art can be.

  • Artists who are continually  experimenting within their own practice.

  • Artists who are interested in being part of a collective that offers mutual support in art making - from participating in critiques, to offering technical assistance, to direct collaboration.

  • Artists who are at least as focused on advancing their mediums as their careers.

  • Artists who are collaborative rather than competitive, and who believe that mutual support allows everyone to advance in their work.

We are committed to keeping Mobius diverse such that each member brings a strikingly different perspective, a divergent voice, and a unique twist to their art medium. We welcome inquiries from artists that self-identify as BIPOC, differently-abled, immigrant, queer, non-binary or transgender. We also encourage any artists that feel that their self-identification or medium are not well represented in their field or who work in cross-disciplinary ways to please apply.

Note that our priority is to support artists based in or with strong ties to the Greater Boston area.

If you are interested in joining Mobius send us an email with the following information:

Tell us who you are, why you’re interested in being a member of the Mobius Artists’ Group. Please share some of your work with us (include any relevant links).

Or,

Propose a project or a collaboration with all, some, or one of our members.

Potential members may be invited to get to know us via the following pathways:

Productions of works-in-progress; open calls; collaborative work with Mobius artists; and through the nomination of an artist who has participated in our Spiderweb Series.

Applying to an open call or proposing a collaborative project with Mobius members is a great first step towards membership as it’s a way to get to know current members and build relationships to determine if it’s a good match. But if you don't have a project or collaboration to propose, write in anyway and we’ll make sure to reach out to you directly next time we have a community event, open call or other opportunities for collaboration. If this option for connecting more deeply poses a barrier for you in terms of accessibility, feel free to suggest alternate modes of connecting. We hold a recommitment meeting every June to establish membership for the year.
