Exhibition Dates: February 9th- March 1, 2024
Opening Event: February 10th at 6-9pm
Artist Talks & Performances: February 24th at 6-9pm
Rooted Waves follows the threads of Lani Asunción’s and Feda Eid’s work exploring identity in relationship to nature, place, geographies, and landscapes. Together these facets overlap into a surge of bold expression of self, history, community, and envisioned future.
From Hawai’i to the Philippines, from the Levant and Southwest Asia, both artists have been uprooted from complex cultural backgrounds. The fabric of their work flows from personal narrative across generations of migration and intergenerational traumas. Through varied lenses
of photography, installation, video, and public performance, the artists explore assimilation and adaptation to American histories in connection with imperialism and colonialism while honoring their ancestral heritage and lived experiences.
Parallel and intersecting cultural connections unfold between the works of Asunción and Eid, embodying and contesting the influence of American culture both on their identity and artistic expressions.
