Joanna Tam Visibility Studies
Joanna Tam's solo exhibition, Visibility Studies, at Regis College Fine Arts Center will be on view from Oct 16 to Dec 2. Public reception: Oct 26, 5:30 - 7:30pm. Joanna will do a walk-through at 6:00pm on Oct 26.
Visibility Studies is a body of work that examines the meaning of hypervisibility and invisibility in relation to safety.
Interdisciplinary artist Joanna Tam approaches her inquiry as an Asian American and an asexual woman by making blankets and a garment from used safety vests (to represent hypervisibility and safety) and green screen material (to represent invisibility). Using video, photography, and installation as her medium, she explores the nuances of visibility and vulnerability for people at the margins and the oppressed. Her investigation also includes camouflage, surveillance, and the survival strategies used by animals through coloration and mimicry.
