Love Apple Workshop
In Elizabethan England and some parts of Europe, it was once a common practice for women to put peeled apples in their armpits and dance until the apple was soaked in sweat. They’d give the apple to a suitor to eat at the end of an evening of dancing. (I love how completely unlike using dating apps this is!)
The Love Apple Workshop will be a casual, prompt-based conversation about the many strange ways that people express and ritualize their feelings of love and desire. While we chat, we’ll peel small local apples and then place them in our armpits. Over the course of the evening, we’ll shift away from thinking about sexual and romantic love, towards thinking about civic love and how that is ritualized and expressed. The workshop will end with some sweating and a journey to a place nearby that we’ll decide together most deserves our collective love.
