Doing Nothing Together on Governors Island

Feralpy is a month-long program curated by Jemila MacEwan and Amelia Heintzelman sharing the diverse practices of 40 artists through workshops, performances, film screenings, durational experiences and installations. This program unearths the myriad of ways that artists’ creative processes often serve as a therapeutic or healing practice for the artist, their community or society.

As a matter of personal and creative survival, these experimental forms of therapy are often born out of a need for distinct creative methods for working through the specific challenges of neuro-divergency, trauma, high-sensitivity, queerness and alienation which are common experiences for artists. These forms of therapy are rarely commodified in the wellness industrial complex and thus are invisible and inaccessible to many. In Feralpy we get curious about these free-range healing practices and invite artists to share them with a wider audience in an accessible, stigma-free, and donation-based format.

Doing Nothing Together is an accountability container for practicing pause and presence, collectively, in resistance to perfectionist culture. It helps people build their capacity to reject the pressure and debilitating effects of unnecessary urgency.

Four 30-minute sample sessions will occur throughout the course of the day at 12pm, 2pm, 4pm and 6pm. Register in advance at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/doing-nothing-together-with-hey-there-kapplow-tickets-667147164127?aff=oddtdtcreator or just show up!

If you are not in NYC and still want to have this experience, you are welcome to join regular, weekly, telephonic Doing Nothing Together gatherings. Learn more at https://doingnothingtogether.com/

Doing Nothing Together is a service focused on rest, respite and resisting urgency led by Boston-based artist Hey There Kapplow.
