Zack Fuller Performs 'Into the Shiny Battle' Event photos: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mobiusorg/sets/72157623555487241/

'Into the Shiny Battle' is choreographed and performed by Zack Fuller in collaboration with musicians Katt Hernandez and Jonathan Vincent. Based on a child’s drawings and featuring a special appearance by Kai the astounding infant prodigy.

Zack Fuller has been creating dance and physical theater since 1987 when he participated in theatrical research with Ryszard Cieslak, the leading actor of Jerzy Grotowski’s Polish Laboratory Theater. He has performed throughout Europe, Japan, and the U.S. in works by the renowned dancer/farmer Min Tanaka, including the U.S. tour of Poe Project: Stormy Membrane and the European tour of the Goya series. His own original dance pieces have been presented by CAVE’s New York Butoh Festival, Plan B in Tokyo, and the Dance Hakushu Festival in Yamanashi, Japan. They frequently involve collaboration with cutting edge musicians, and have been described by the Boston Globe as “Cryptic… but characterized by astonishing theatricality,” and “Like an angel coming down Jacob’s ladder to play in the garbage” by the Japanese dance critic Hidenaga Otori.

Zack will also present an 8-hour workshop on Saturday, March 20th and Sunday, March 21st at a location To Be Determined. Description of the workshop is below:

Hunting Impulse: Training and Improvisation This workshop utilizes elements of Grotowski work and Body Weather training and is geared towards creating possibilities for improvisation. Jumping, rolling, and elements from Hatha Yoga and Capoeira are combined in ways that emphasize the balance between structure and impulse while challenging, strengthening and activating the upper body and arms as much as the lower body and legs. Slow movement with visualization and partnering exercises are to develop total body awareness . The workshop culminates in extended improvisations with music, using a physical method that allows movers to hunt impulses in the body and draw out imagery from the subconscious.  Goals are transformation, animism. The workshop is open to dancers, non-dancers, improvisers, actors, people interested in butoh, or those seeking a physical experience. No previous dance training is necessary.
