electroacoustic improvisation

Led by Bhob Rainey and comprised of some the greater Boston areas finest electroacoustic musicians, the bsc will make a rare live appearance at Mobius on Saturday March 6th.

Few improvising ensembles of this size (there are eight regular members of the BSC) have created such consistently compelling works, and this is partly due to the unique rehearsal techniques employed by the ensemble, to their sharp, dedicated musical sensibilities, and to many of the long-term musical relationships that have existed within the group (fans of electroacoustic music will recognize members of the groups nmperign and the undr quartet). The BSC was a mainstay at New England Conservatory's SICPP festival for three years, was recently awarded a unique summer residency by Boston concert moguls Non-Event, and was the subject and focus of a three night mini festival in Philadelphia. Performances of the bsc are becoming increasingly infrequent due to recent movement of some of its members away from the greater Boston area, so this concert promises to be a celebratory reunion and a compelling listening experience.

the bsc isbhob rainey (s. sax, director); greg kelley (tpt); james coleman (theremin); liz tonne (voice); mike bullock (dbl. bass); chris cooper (prepared gtr. and electronics); vic rawlings (cello and electronics); howard stelzer (tapes)
